Today was the start of what many hope will become a cherished annual tradition in the united states; a running of the bulls, just like in Spain. The Great Bull Run came to the Virginia Motorsports Park on Sat. Aug. 24th. You were asked to 'grab life by the horns and experience the rush of a lifetime as you sprint down a quarter-mile track with twelve 1000lb young bulls hot on your heels.
Cap off your run in the 'insanely fun' tomato food fight; The Tomato Royale, then celebrate all day long in their massive festival featuring live music,, great food, cold beer, games and attractions! Not up to running with the bulls? No problem, you can watch all the action as a spectator or join in our Tomato Royale. You get a ticket to participate in the running and/or the food fight, all day access to the festival, a bull run t-shirt, a bull run bandana (only for runners),one beer (if 21 or older).
I would presume each run participant signs some agreement not to sue this organization for any injury that occurs. It's amazing what some people do to have 'a good time'. Of course I can't criticize them too much. This year, for the first time, I joined a charity group and went to a camp area, where we did White Water Rafting, paddling our little inner tube on the bumpy waters. It was great fun. Still not sure if I'll do it again.
Speaking of risky behavior, at the addiction to same, I was disappointed but not surprised that Zimababwe is still under the Fascist thumb of the Mugabe regime. You may have heard of him, the 89 year old man who refuses to step aside. Mugabe is the same President who openly declared war on white farmers in that country, saying they must go, they must hand control back over to the black citizens who settled the region first. Zimbabwe was allowed to proceed with this stupid, racist policy, largely unencumbered by other world leaders threatening to disrupt business. Of course our president says not a word about this ongoing tragedy. I believe Zimabawe used to be the 'Breadbasket of Africa". As recently as 20 years ago, the fertile lands were full with productive farms. Now very little product is from this country. Sometimes I see Zimbabwe as a magnified version of Detroit, Michigan, our American version of Atlantis. There is hope for Detroit finally, because many decisions have been taken out of local union claws. The plight of Detroit is nationally spoken of and thought of now, thank goodness.
Run with the bulls, you must have a death wish.
The Spanish would never let us live that down, if it was discovered the decision was made to ‘slow walk’ these American button pushers into the absolute dangers of Running with REAL Bulls. Let’s start them gentle, nice and slow with herd of (pregnant!) Miss Elsies, you remember Elsie The Cow, don’t you?
We should start a pool on when Mugabe will die. I pick 5 July 2014 (birthday of Cecil Rhodes).
