I went to my local Gander to get my duck stamps and a deer license today and noticed that they were flush with handgun and AR ammo for the first time in a long time (.22 LR too!)
Got to the counter to check out and observed (heard) the gal behind the counter ask the gentleman ahead of me who had his limit of 10 boxes of .22 LR (50 per box) his DOB and if he was going to be using a long gun or a handgun.
His DOB was something in 1929 and he was going to be using them in a long gun.
I was next and purchased my tags and 2 boxes of the same ammo. When asked the same question, I replied..."both".
She looked at me, looked at the computer screen, looked at me and again at the computer screen...
I have no idea what she finally clicked on,but, I got out of there without a visit from Big Sis.

My answer? “They’re party treats.”
You should have told her zip to see what her reaction would be.
I was at Gander tonight too and noticed they had a lot of CCI .22LR 50 round boxes for $4.99. I left without buying any. Wal-Mart and others have had it cheaper than that recently.
Federal law says you have to be 21 to purchase “pistol ammo”. That’s probably why she was asking if it was to be used in a pistol or a long arm. It’s kind of stupid law as most “pistol ammo” calibers can be used in rifles/carbines. Lots of 9mm is purchased to be used in High Point carbines, etc.
Yep. 4.99 for 50 rounds of standard velocity target rounds.
I get it, but I’ve been asked these questions before today.
Does that mean if someone is 22 they are SOL?
Correction.
I’ve NEVER been asked these questions before today.
..and the better answer would be “nunya”
The last time I bought any .22 LR was about 2 years ago at Walmart, 525 rounds for $15.90 or so plus tax so say $16.50. What’s the going price for a bulk pack now?
Whats the going price for a bulk pack now?
Hard to say. I have not seen any bulk pack for months.
I bought some Remington 525 boxes for 23.99 at Walmart - limit of three, about a month ago.
You said “The last time I bought any .22 LR was about 2 years ago at Walmart, 525 rounds for $15.90 or so plus tax so say $16.50. Whats the going price for a bulk pack now?”
I just got back from GM; a 500 brick is $53 with tax ...
EeeeeeeeK!!!!! Driving up the price of ammo is what the ObamaNation buying up all of it is about. The less ammo the less practice the les capable the people will be when he unleashes ‘Holder’s people’ for the overthrow. Egypt has got to be nagging at the back of “The Great ObamaNation’s” mind.
Have 3 1/2 boxes of CCI (50’s) maxi mags .22MRF with $2.75 price stickers on them. I need to do more shooting!
Most of my recent shooting has been with a pellet gun in my garden.
Bump!
