After my freshman year in college, five of us piled into a microbus and drove across country. They dropped me in Barstow and turned North to he Washington State canneries for the summer. I went to be a live-in gardener for my uncle in Encino Hills, LA area. After a year at LA Valley College, I couldn't wait to get back to the Tennessee Hills!
That little microbus had a watercooler thang that hung on an opened window, for air conditioning across the desert. Did a little bit to ease the heat. We carried more water than gas as I recall.
