Its a Duck Nation, and were all just living in it.
Last week, A&E Networks reality show Duck Dynasty catapulted to become the biggest unscripted show in cable history with its fourth season premiere. With nearly 11.8 million viewers, the show about a Louisiana family that has made millions from its duck call fabrication business is on the brink of toppling The Walking Dead. If it does, it will become cable's biggest show.
The A&E Network, as Duck Commander patriarch Phil Robertson would say, is Happy, happy, happy. The show premiered in March 2012 and finished its first cycle with an average 1.3 million viewers, according to data provided by Nielsen. By its third season finale, an average 8.4 million people were tuning in to hear Phil saying things like, Ducks are like women. They dont like a lot of mud on their butts, and Uncle Si explaining the many uses of the word Hey.
Has "Duck" reached its peak audience? There's no way to know, but the network's executives aren't betting against it.
Im a superstitious man so I dont make [ratings] predictions, said David McKillop, A&Es general manager and executive vice president. But do I think weve found the ceiling yet? I dont know but I dont think so. We have some fun episodes coming down the pike. So keep your seat belt fastened.

Oh and Phil making fun of Willie and Jace marrying yuppie wives and havung yuppie kids. They might look like hillbillies but they live like millionaires (except Phil and Miss Kay they still live in the house raised the kids in)
“History Channel shows are the absolute worst.”

I watch the History Channel more then anything else on my G-sat, my only TV. I call most of their programs “semi reality”. I also watch a fair amount of Natl. Geographic.
Yeah who else get the luck of running into Prince walking down the street in full regalia with no entourage or fans eating outdoors. You mean that wasn’t faked?!?!
You can actually go to Phil and Miss Kay’s house on Google or Bing street view. There is a hand printed Duck Commander sign propped up against a tree. It sure looks like the picture was taken before the show aired.

Morning n’@ RWI...
Last night they reran the renewing of vows of Phil and Miss Kay. Even having watched it last week, it still made me laugh and cry.
The new episode last night (Phil takes 3 granddaughters fishing) and Korey & Missy “help” Martin get ready for a date (can ANOTHER wedding be in the offing?) was funny and sweet. Si, sporting a boa is classic (he is a natural story teller). I love the (as we say in the Burgh) “jagging” between the bros...my 19 year old has Jace’s delivery and sense of humor.
Love DD!
Note, also, that the Duck Dynasty company is a large contributor to the National Rifle Asso.
Let’s just hope success doesn’t go to their head. It’s my (and my wife’s now) favorite show.
I watched a segment of DD a few days ago after seeing all the stories on FR. I don’t get it. Didnt see anything salacious, which I guess is a big draw, it certainly is different than most things on the boob tube which is kind of a cool way to go about it. But come on already.
I hope the crabduckgoldshineswampmountainamishbooboowifeswap reality garbage stuff blows over soon. Probably not too likely considering how cheap these things are to make and what folks are willing to swallow as reality entertainment.
I agree about Breaking Bad, pretty darn good.
Freegards
Walking Dead's new season hasn't started yet. When it does DD's reign as the biggest show will end pretty fast.
Because of all this hoopla, and the fact that so many freepers seem to like it, I think I will catch a few episodes. Should I start from the beginning? Or just jump right in.
I mean, I DID end up getting into the Walking Dead, so I may give this a shot.
Jase and Si are the show.
Phil biting the head off the snake, I bet PETA types had a cow.
A direct but subtle expression of Christianity shines through everyday occurrences, with none of the "train wreck" vulgarity, profanity and outbursts that drive most other "reality" TV shows. When producers inserted a phony bleep in the first episode in order to "spice up" the show, the Robertsons made them stop because it gave viewers the impression that they use profanity, which they don't. There are many other examples, but you'll enjoy seeing for yourself. Ultimately, DD is less about ducks than about a healthy family with a healthy faith in the God who made them and the Son who redeemed them.
Not to mention the before dinner blessing at the end of almost every show.
“But...are you telling me that when Chumlee of “Pawn Stars” tries yet another bonehead maneuver straight out of a bad sitcom, that it’s...scripted? Say it isn’t so!”
Pawn Stars is my favorite on History. The owner is a libertarian, which I like, and the old dude was in the Navy, which I also like.
I like Chumlee too. I was a bit shocked to hear about him being involved in a fight in Hollywood.
It's one of the few shows on History that I can still enjoy. I do like it when they go into the history of an item, but I could do without the lame comedy routines.

I don't believe for a moment that his on-screen persona is genuine...that having been said, it can be entertaining at times.
I remember the early days of the History Channel, when people mockingly called it the "Hitler Channel" because it showed so many WW2 documentaries. Those were the good old days...

I LIVE for WW2 history/documentaries. I loved the History Channel back then. I never get tired of WW2 history, or history in general.
I can seriously do without all the UFO crap, and the Hatfields/McCoys reality shows. It’s a real shame what has happened to that network. :-/
