is windows 8 unzip buggy? I have seen some reports to that effect.

i have a windows 8 system that i don't actually use myself, but which seems to have a buggy unzip feature built into explorer.

if this is a real problem, is 7-zip a good solution?

I don’t like windows 8

I got a classic shell that makes it look like regular windows.

I guess you can just Google “classic shell windows 7” to download?

I don't use google but I think I searched on Download.com and got it there for Windows 8 so they probably have it for 7. I always use their free antivirus.

I’ve found 7-zip to be excellent.

Classic shell is here: http://www.classicshell.net/

The Lenovo Outlet Store usually has lots of PCs and notebooks with Win 7.

I really like winrar. It’s free, too.

WinRAR for the Win!

A few tips for all of those struggling with windows 8

1. disable user account control

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

2. Disable Hybrid power

3. User a local account instead of a MS live

4. Disable Sticky Keys

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-the-irritating-sticky-filter-keys-popup-dialogs/

5. Treat Metro like a full screen Start Menu. Avoid using the metro internet explorer, pin your app shortcuts to your desktop. I rarely use metro or its apps beyond pressing the desktop key when my PC boots

6. Check out windows god mode. The hotkey is Windows key + X. Press them as the same time. It’s the best thing Microsoft ever did.

7. Setup window backup and create a system image on your first run. You will thank yourself later

8. Familiarize yourself yourself with the new windows in place refresh tool.

This alone is a godsend!!

One last thing I forgot...

If you need to find an app fast, just press the windows key and start typing the name of the app. The search works great and most ppl dont even realize its there.

I may make a vanity post later today with these tips in it. Anything to help those stuck with Windows 8 make a smooth transition. I hated 8 at first and now I love it.

I heard on a Geek radio show that there is a free ware shell that will make your computer loaded with 8 look and operate like 7.

Windows 8 sometimes shows a zip file as empty when other apps can see the content. :(

From lots of experience I can say 7zip is great. I know nothing about Windows 8 zip/unzip.
