In a bizarre incident, a man in the US while attending a gun safety class was accidentally shot in the arm by an instructor.
Michael Piemonte, from Ohio, was attending a concealed-carry class with his wife Alison in central Ohio's Fairfield County over the weekend. Such classes are required for anyone wanting carry a concealed weapon in the state.
There were 29 students in the lecture-type class, Piemonte said. He was sitting in the front row.
While the instructor was demonstrating a self-defence techniques, the gun went off.
The bullet struck Piemonte in the arm. Even he did not realise what had happened.
New law allows schools to teach gun safety to first-graders.
"Everyone was in shock," Piemonte was quoted by CNN as saying. "It took me a couple of seconds to realise that I had been shot."
The 26-year-old said he's in good spirits. "I'm just glad my wife did not get hit."
Piemonte said the instructor has been calling him regularly to check in.
"It makes me feel good that he is so concerned," he said.
The Fairfield County sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene described the shooting as accidental, The Columbus Dispatch newspaper reported.
Piemonte doesn't have a gun yet, but was planning to get one this year. He still plans on doing so.
"It was the first time I've been shot," he said. "And hopefully the last.
So, is this the new safety technique? We show you exactly, right in front of your eyes, how easy it is to get shot by someone who has failed to follow basic gun safety instruction. Any questions? Yes, you in the front row with the blood coming out of your arm?
Never had an accidental discharge myself, but have seen some at the local range.
That's why some buddies and myself built our own shooting range, too many *cowboys* out there.
...and that concludes this demonstration on how NOT to safely handle a firearm.
No excuse. Should know the rules.
Automatic F!
Piemonte said the instructor has been calling him regularly to check in.
“It makes me feel good that he is so concerned,” he said.
There is absolutely no excuse for this incident. If there is a need to demonstrate “a self-defence techniques” it would be appropriate to use a solid rubber training aid.
The instructor is concerned because he doesn’t want to get sued and/or stomped into a pulp.
I just love how that non-sequitur sentence is thrown into the middle of the article. Agenda much?
Why was there live ammo in the classroom?
Why were there people in front of the pointy end of the gun?
Ohio requires instructors to receive certification throughMy guess is that the instructor is a retired LEO
other governmental agencies to qualify as a CCW instructor.
Too bad for the guy who got shot that he decided to break all four of ‘em at once.
Somebody has to be the example.
