OMG, am sending that to xsteen. She’s attending her first friend’s wedding, a college roommate from UD, who is getting married in Oct. The ceremony in Dallas is civil, they are getting married in Rome in church on 12/21. Of course, no UD kids are going to have $ to pony up to attend the religious ceremony, AND who is going to want to spend that kind of $ to go that close to Christmas. Odd all the way around. Both bride and groom did go to UD and did the Rome semester the same time xsteen did, though they were not dating at that point.
Anyway, i did tell her about need to cover the cost of the meal x 2 since she’s taking her boyfriend. But the Dallas ceremony is most likely going to be tea and cookies, AND she’s paying to fly there and for a hotel, so we decided $100 was more than adequate to spend on the gift for that wedding.

Well, there are things people might think about and then there are things people are crass to actually say.

If getting married, you might wish that you receive lots of cash gifts to help defray the costs. But to actually ask for such upfront, or to be offended by non-cash gifts, or cash in insufficient amounts is just unbelieveably classless.

Your budget should not be relying on everyone paying their own freight.
