I have to agree with you. For them, the door swings only one way. My niece is married to a black man — a good guy. Still, in their home hangs a BIG picture of MLK. They just had a kid and he’ll be raised as a black person, not an American.
I’m dying to ask my niece why there isn’t a picture of someone from HER heritage hanging in their home. She could find a picture of her (white) ancestor, Roger Williams, who fought slavery in the early 1600s — centuries before MLK’s time. I’m dying to ask why she is OK with the fact that she and her heritage are not important in her home.
