Consider for a moment how you might have felt after doing one of these jobs for 8 hours. They worked hard physically as well as a level of mental anguish not seen today. This is why the unions were able to organize and challenge leadership for more of the pie. But as things got easier the unions could only see greed and didn’t know when to stop. It depends on the person. I could do that work all day while thinking about other things. That's the only way to approach assembly-line work. If I tried to focus on the work I would go crazy (and join a union).
