MLB Suspends 13, Including A-Rod

Major League Baseball came down heavy Monday on the players it found to have been involved with the South Florida clinic Biogenesis, suspending Alex Rodriguez through the end of the 2014 season and banning 12 others for 50 games, including three All-Stars: Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres and Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig, in two statements addressing Rodriguez's discipline and a more general one on the state of baseball's ant-drug program, said he was "proud of the comprehensive nature of our efforts – not only with regard to random testing, groundbreaking blood testing for human Growth Hormone and one of the most significant longitudinal profiling programs in the world, but also our investigative capabilities, which proved vital to the Biogenesis case."

Selig said Rodriguez's punishment will begin Thursday and cover the postseasons, and was covered under the drug program's protocols and Rodriguez's "use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years.

I know it’s always about race with you, but why did you cherry pick Ryan Braun out of your list? Is Ryan Braun an evil Hispanic according to you?

Funny that the ring leader is the only one appealing his punishment, isn't it. Personally, I enjoy the fact that he will cost the Yankees salary money and continue his pathetic play along with his pathetic appeal.

I hope both his playing time and appeal will allow him to drag down the Yankees for the rest of the year so as to ensure neither gets nowhere near post season.

Francisco Cervelli is of Italian heritage.

I think the point was that they all look the same. Like the Chinese and Japanese. Koreans, too.

Maybe he's a Puerto-Rican Jew, like Epstein.

It should be one and done and the teams should not be allowed to profit on it. Any savings on contracts should be donated for retired players health benefits.

Check out those two in 1935, He was forty years of age. His 712, 713, and 714th home runs were all on the same day. He was a Boston Brave. He was only 13 for 72 at that time, but six of those hits were home runs. The 714th was actually the first ball ever hit over that grandstand in right at Forbes Field. Earlier that year in an exhibition game he hit a 500 footer at Rupert Stadium in Newark (see video). Also check out the video that explains his power. He was also the first player to clear the double decker grandstand at Comiskey Park. And to think he was 94-46 as a pitcher and had a 6-3 record against Walter Johnson. And no steroids!

These characters should be banned from Minor League Baseball as well, as MLB controls those franchises.

Maybe A-Rod and his pals can play some sand-lot pick-up games in the meantime.

No sympathy for A-Rod? He’s approaching the end of his career. He needs performance enhancing drugs. And, when baseball is over, he’ll soon need PEDs of a different sort.

He was voted on the all-star squad every year from 1996-2011.

Although 2010 was the last year he produced all-star standard performance. Don't know if he had a great first half in 2011, but suspect it was just carry-over voting from his 14 consecutive appearances.

Basically, all he is going to be from now until he starts serving his suspension is a mediocre DH, at best.

I think there is a good argument that his play, no matter how diminished, will be more productive than anyone else they have at 3rd. Once Youkilis comes back, it might be a different story.
