I would argue that the abandonment of the Constitutional role of government hastened the downfall of the US and it's citizens and turned the US against God. It gave license to immoral behavior, because if the government doesn't follow the law, why will the citizen? We saw that with the Soviet Union.

If you are calling for more regulation that is not authorized by the Constitution, you need to change the Constitution and re-form the government into the totalitarian government you desire to control your fellow man.

I'm not calling for more regulation, I'm just trying to wake up the apparent libertarians here to the fact that blind faith in the Constitution to solve our problems will never work, given the populace of today. Constitutional freedoms applied in a vacuum will only worsen our problems. The stark reality is that a large segment of the country is no longer governable as originally intended. Freedom granted to them, in their current moral condition, only enables more destructive behavior.

If we really want to restore America, the only way is to focus on God first, and on renewing faith in God. Frankly, without God we might as well burn the Constitution because as Adams and others foresaw, a faithless people will only use the constitution to do evil and to justify that evil.

The Constitution is an amazing tool, but only a tool and a tool that was specifically designed to protect the freedom of "...a moral and religious people." It can do nothing to protect the freedom of those who do not fit that description. THAT is why we find ourselves in a constant struggle to preserve the Constitution today, because we have forgotten the type of people that we must be before it can have any lasting power.
