The choice is okay, but google the fellow and he’s known for profane tirades in his work. Tom Baker was a monk, and a quiet, decent fellow. A quick youtube search shows most of this guy’s scenes consisting of him yelling the f-word. Along with gay this and gay that, Dr. Who just isn’t family-friendly any more, and that is a shame.

I remember when Star Trek Enterprise came on, and I was excited about getting my nieces into it, as I grew up with Star Trek, basically the first scene showed a porn-queen Vulcan woman spreading decontamination gel all over her half-naked body. Not something I’d want kids growing up with. I wish they had the writing skills to just make good episodes and weren’t trying to indoctrinate. Multiculturalism and gay pride. Enough.

Utter nonsense.

His foul mouthed turn as ‘Malcolm Tucker’ is just ONE part he has played. Brilliantly I might add. Believe me, I have been watching him for 30 years (since Local Hero in 1983) and he has done many parts suitable for a wide audience, he has done everything from children’s TV and documentary narration (he has a wonderful voice) to very dark and adult parts. I know this man’s work far better than you and you are wrong. Utterly wrong.

Go and watch as much as you can of his work and you will understand why the UK public regards him as one of their best actors and why we are all happy he has the new Who role. Even if he swore and copulated in everything he did, Dr Who is and will remain a family show aired in the UK at ‘teatime’ (6-7pm). There isn’t and wont be a swear word in the show.

BTW, Tom Baker is legendary for his foul language and crude/black humour off-screen. I know people who have worked with him, and lovely man he is, but non-swearer and non-rude joke teller he most certainly isn’t. And besides, his most recent famous role on tv in the UK was as the surreal and rude narrator of the VERY RUDE sketch show Little Britain. I have heard him tell the dirtiest stories on chat shows and his autobiography has its rude moments.

If you think Tom was and is whiter than white, think again.

Since Moffat is the lead for story ideas, I doubt if he will have Peter Capaldi use the Malcolm Tucker character as the model for the 12th Doctor. Of course, there was the family unfriendly bit where the 11th Dr. translates for the horse that he is mentally a she. It was the western episode with Ben Browder. Another case where an actor, Browder, didn’t play his two most noted characters from Stargate SG-1 and Farscape.

BTW, his turn as Malcolm ‘sweary’ Tucker is actually based on Tony Blair’s notorious PR guru Alastair Campbell.

I have watched Capaldi is almost everything he has been in, and far from many swearing roles on TV and film, most of what he has done has in fact been mainstream, ‘primetime’ British TV drama, where foul language has been little or non existant. Not because we don’t allow it (in fact the UK is FAR more relaxed on language and sex and violence than US networks), but they haven’t been part of the story.

That’s why his Tucker role blew everyone away in the UK: because he was known more for his superb serious dramatic performances and hadn’t been known for ‘sweary’ roles. ‘Dark’ roles, yes, but not crude.

Sorry mate, but you clearly know nothing about this actor. And are using youtube/google to make a nonsense point about a career based on ONE role.
