Barebones-loving and fellow Linux geeks, a sad milestone has been reached.

I’ve heard that boutique tech websites are getting absolutely killed by the big wholesalers charging anti competitive prices/fees. I’m talking about Ingram Micro, Tech Data, D&H, etc.
They charge a $5 order processing surcharge on every order placed with them. Talk about crazy.
If you buy a $1 item from the wholesaler, it will cost you $6. Add shipping on top of it all. It just doesnt make sense.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard of them and I have been buying computer parts online for years. It sounds like something I would have loved.
This from their website:
"The e-commerce landscape, as well as the consumer electronics market, has changed dramatically with intense competition and a 1000lb gorilla (do we really need to say who) competitor that can lose millions of dollars to buy customers and suck up inventory."
Would I be correct in assuming they're talking about Amazon?

Spent a few thousand there over the years myself. Haven't been back much since they moved and don't let you pick up all your orders at their local store. They have the best prices for a lot of things--cases, power supplies, cheap wifi adapters, monitors, lots of stuff. I will miss them, too.
You can get a lot of what they sell from Meritline, and anything else, from TigerDirect.

Whew... When I first read this I thought it was about
ThinkGeek.com which would have depressed me greatly.
Sad to hear another business is being ground into the dust by the Obamaeconomy but hey Americans voted for it so there it is.

I bought from them many years ago, but then stopped when the deals didn’t look so good compared to what I could find on EBay.
