I did not know what a Painted Church was until I was searching for the Sunday thread and found The Painted Churches of Texas..
I went to Kealakakua the day after my friend died.
I drove around through the rain forest, up and down the mountain, and visited the Captain Cook memorial with its ancient temple(site of the first Christian Service in Hawaii), A couple of Coffee farms, A Meditation Botanical Garden, The City of Refuge National Park, and The Painted Church, all in one day.
I just walked and walked, prayed, took pictures, and spent the day “not really” Alone.
The driving is a bit rough, and more suitible for a jeep, but I had driven there before, and kind of knew my way around.
Also, it’s very hard to get lost on an island. :-)
