You can’t have a squad of cats brought there to kill the rats and then whistle for them to come back to their handler. And why would you subject cats to close proximity with these diseased vermin? Your cats would pick up fleas, ticks, and some very nasty diseases from them. If you mean dumping a bunch of feral cats there, that would just be plain cruel. What do they eat after the rats? And then, what about the fleas and diseases? They would not be brought to a vet to be treated. They would have no shelter, no homes. Turn a bunch of idiot kids out with pellet guns? That’s a sure recipe for disaster. The ERs in the area would be overrun with kids shot up with pellets, the area vets would be overrun with pets injured, too.

The red-tailed hawks would take care of all felines other than red-blooded, Viking Kitty rat-catchers.
Since hawks are pretty much at the top of their food chain, I suppose you bring in even larger hawks to control the eventual hawk problem, or Slow Joe and his shotgun.

For the rats you need both an air and armor assault.

The Falconer and the good ole boys with air rifles and a few cases of Bud will do the trick.

Be enterprising an open up a range and falconer training facility. Charge 5 bucks an hour.

“Who you gonna call?”

“Rent-a-Terrier!”

I believe the world record went to a rat terrier-pit bull mix who killed something like 1000 rats in an hour. A Jack Russell terrier was the fastest, however, at 100 rats in a minute.

I think that “rat bulls” have long been illegal in the UK, as they were a preferred dog of poachers.

the price has to be high enough

at $10 a rate maybe?

The cost SAVINGS from eliminating desease and destruction would be worth it

FREE rat poison provided, free cages... I dunno

Set free enterprise loose and you will sovle the problem

Ok what is that from? .... it is making me crazy

I am thinking it was either a movie about a computer I vaguely remember OR a twilight zone episode about a guy who lived in a glass room because someone bet him he could not stop talking for a year.

You wouldn't want to hand out free rat poison, especially in that neighborhood. They no speak English in many cases and probably could not understand the directions. Rat poison is best handled by professionals only. It has also killed many beneficial animals such as redtailed hawks in the city, who eat a poisoned rat and then die. That's how Pale Male, the famous 5th Avenue redtail, lost a couple of his mates and some of his offspring. You want these natural predators at work killing rats, not dead from poison.

As I said before, this is a highly urban area, not like some cornfield out in the middle of Podunk. You can't encourage kids to use BB guns to kill the rats because they don't have BB guns, they have real ones--this neighborhood is a Hispanic gang location. The entire park is a tiny speck of green. A bullet's trajectory would probably exceed the length of this park. You certainly don't want people taking potshots at rats and missing, hitting someone's kid or ricocheting off one of the nearby steel supportive posts for the elevated subway line adjacent to the park.

Eliminate the garbage tossed into the street, the nearby overflowing dumpsters and trash receptacles and the rats go elsewhere.

It’s from an episode of Superman, where he sets up a tape recording and a sillouette of himself so he can foil the crooks before they can despoil Lois Lane, or something.
