I used to live by Oakland Park Blvd between the Turnpike and University in the 1970s. My boundaries were basically University to the west, 441 to the east, Sunrise Blvd to the south, and Commercial/Baily rd to the north. Occasional forays into Pompano, Hollywood, and the beach.

Pine Island wasn't built yet, and the roads west stopped after University. There was no Sawgrass, just 2-lane Hwy 27. I used to take that the Hollywood Sportatorium, which is also no longer there.

The Turnpike can help for getting to west Broward, but be sure to be gassed up, bladdered out and have exact change or the fines will not make it worth it at all.

Oh, or have the Sun Pass(which, forgive me for not wanting the government with a monthly hand in my checking account or pay $10 a month for the privilege of paying tolls up front.
