I heard that question asked of an instructor once. His answer, "Never shoot and drive. Do one or the other. Either you are fleeing or fighting. Use the car for cover and be shooting. Or use the car for flight and be leaving."

Having seen the penetration of even marginal pistol rounds through multiple auto body panels and interior trim, I’m going to get technical on you and say that an auto represent *concealment* much moreso than *cover*. “Cover” being something that will reliably stop a bullet, which is more rare than frequently thought, as the following article discusses:
