“X-NG” could be a euphemism for a popular expletive which describes my feelings about school. Or shcool.
You’ve misinterpreted that street sign of yours. That was done by a passing road crew who found an innovative way to alert the street sign “editors” that the spelling of school was “X” “NG” (read: Wrong, No Good). The crew seeing this would immediately realize the need to correct the offending signage, consult the official street sign dictionary, and make the necessary correction.

I blew the whistle when some “public servants” installed all four signs at a four-way Stop BACKWARDS (i.e. you were looking at bare galvanized metal from all directions).
Prime evidence of union guys with their skivvies in a twist over something. Had to be deliberate cause even THEY aren’t that stupid.
