lol.
I saw a Korean show and just in passing, literally seconds on screen, was a sign that said “Rocker Room” instead of locker room. So, they know the r/l thing is funny to us english speakers.
I worked with an very educated and equally intelligent Japanese woman. One day she said the word, "X-Lay". I asked her if she knew the word was "X-Ray" and she said yes, that's what she said. I told her she was pronouncing the word incorrectly and she insisted she was not. Dumbfounded, I asked her to pronounce the word again and she said "X-Lay". OK, call me slow but it was only then that I realized she actually thought she was saying it correctly. I pronounced the word slowly for her "X-R-A-Y". She followed with "X-L-A-Y". In spite of her intelligence she apparently could not tell the difference. I asked her to pronounce my office manager's first name of Ryan. To my amazement, she said it correctly. I left the conversation completely confused and I remain that way today.
