Beautifully written, Laz. I'm glad you shared this with us. It made me cry but I also laughed. I especially enjoyed As my cats always do, she named herself with her behavior. Disliking most everyone else, she named herself CAT Hates You. CAT-H-Y. CATHY.

She lives on thanks to that bit of humor because I'm going to be telling others about the cat that named herself CATHY.

I had to have one of our cats euthanized. I put my hand on her because I didn’t her to leave without someone in contact with her. I thought I was going to be strong. I was wrong.

I am so, so sorry for the loss of your beloved friend Cathy. You gave her a very good life. You gave her a very peaceful passing. She knew her fate was always safest in your hands. Hopefully, when the time is right, you will find it in your heart to give another pet a good home, there are so many critters, great and small, that need us. You did good.........

That is.....that's just hard. I commend you for your strength. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been.

You're right about animals being God's creatures. I'm convinced their little minds know a lot more than we will ever understand, at least in this life.

My deepest condolences. I knew that she had been ailing. I didn’t know that she passed away. I’m very sorry.

I’ve wondered how you were doing, Laz, and figured you were letting yourself feel what you needed to feel -— in you own way -— after your trying and emotional last few days and hours with Cathy. Her place in your life is still there, and she is still giving with her dear spirit.

I knew you planned to put thoughts in writing, and I must say that this was above and beyond! Lots to read and reread, and to bookmark for times to come in the future.

But in post 47, you also said something that hit home with me. You said that “ ——— for regret is a terrible and selfish emotion. Instead, treasure the beauty you shared.” I’ve written about the horror of losing a dear sweet one - Teddy- because of a pack of dogs. I’d come to terms with it, some time ago, but the ‘what ifs’ have remained. That DOES pollute my memories in a selfish way. I never thought of it like that. Time to toss it, and treasure what we shared.
