A lot of female animals really have the instinct very strongly. Our calico cat was spayed as a kitten yet when we brought home two 10 week old kittens, she started mothering them as if they were her own. The boys are 6 years old now and one grew up but the other still acts like a tiny kitten around her, right down to trying to nurse and accepting her grooming submissively.
(Yes, I know adult kitties groom each other as well, but the body language between two adults and mother and kitten is very different; he’s in “kitten mode”.)
What is kitty propaganda doing on the doggie ping list?
