People SHOULD watch the show before they prejudge a person based on his outward appearance. He comes across as a very sincere, gentle, kind and loving man who loves cats every much as he does their people. It’s no act or staged show, these are real people with real cat problems and his advice does work.

I would respect a name of Demetreous Glankas more than some DB name of “Jackson Galaxy.” I get people who had to change their name in the turn of the century for profiling sake, but this is just stupid.

He's a "musician at night, cat behaviorist during the day". That's his show hook. Perhaps he was a musician long before he tried the cat whisperer gig? I don't really care what he calls himself, but I am wondering why you say he's a "douche bag". Have you ever watched the show? My hubby and I have probably watched every episode and he has ALWAYS come across as a genuine and caring nice guy. He's helped a lot of cat owners over the years and helps foundations that take in stray or abused cats. As cat lovers ourselves, that is something to admire in a person whatever his appearance.

Hearing about the snow-bird pet abandonment problem makes me physically sick! I did not know that this happens so frequently. The longer I live the more disgusted I am with the depravity of human beings! Our two kittehs are loved family. I can't ever imagine leaving them to fend for themselves. What kind of person could do that???

I have watched many episodes. I am sorry but the carrying cat stuff in a guitar case is just plain goofy.

Jackson is into new age philosophy but he definitely understands cats and their behavior. If you discard the occasional talk about “energy” the rest of his advice is very practical...

I don't know about his new age philosophy, but "energy" is a real issue with sensitive animals whose entire survival depends on "reading" nonverbal clues. A person who is tense, angry or fearful around a misbehaving cat WILL find that the cat picks up on it and if they learn to relax and try to release that anger, frustration or fear, the cat DOES respond to them better. I've seen it happen repeatedly not just on the show but with cats I have known. So, not all references to "energy" has to be the whole new age version of it. It's really not much more than "vibes" we put out that comes across in our body language, eye movement, voice, muscle tension, any number of slight ways that cats just seem to sense. Dogs seem to have the same ability. If you have a cat, this is a great show not disimilar to the "Dog Whisperer" program and its successful methods.

I don’t remember seeing any episode like that. Do you remember what season it was on and what the cat’s name was?

The black light he breaks out of his guitar case to show all of the hidden cat urine and the shocked expressions on the owners faces.

Priceless

Maybe you should pitch a reality show like “Swamp People”, except you shoot cats

Big bucks to be made, and hell of a lot of entertainment value

I suspect Leo is just hungry. The prey is probably already pretty much dead, Leo’s girlfriends having done the heavy work. It’s a good gig, for the jungle. The only reason he has that imposing mane is to attract girlfriends. Without them, it would only serve to scare away prey.

I'm with you, Texan5. It's because people have been irresponsible and lazy that we even have a feral cat (python, dog, nonnative fish, etc.) problem. There ARE humane ways to resolve it. I don't think I could even be friends with, much less respect, someone who could go out and shoot strays without a second thought. Killing animals for food is one thing, killing them because you don't want to be bothered is an entirely different matter.

So carrying his gear in a guitar case makes him a douche bag? Got anything better than that?

I’ll take a guitar case and “out there” style over contrived conflicts to heighten the drama of the show or manufactured attitude to sensationalize the issues any day. Just a ton of insight, sincerity and useful information in every episode. And once you quickly get past all the superficial fronting, very “present” and approachable, no ego or attitude at all, to the point that most people who seriously love cats stop noticing the wild db case or crazy facial hair.

“I am here, first and foremost, to love and serve God” (JG girlfriend’s FB self-description).

"And he acted astonished that they wouldn’t spend that kind of money on cancer surgery that wasn’t even a guarantee. He basically publicly badgered and humiliated them into agreeing to get the surgery. For an animal that they couldn’t even TOUCH. That is not a ‘pet’ and no one should feel obligated (not that I don’t love cats and animals and all animals deserve a chance, but just dang) to spend that kind of money when the vet suggests putting them down."

From what I recall of that episode, the cat WAS a pet, or at least was in the process of becoming one.

You have to understand where Jackson's attitude about euthanasia is coming from. He worked at animal shelters and was personally involved in putting down animals. That's hard for most people to deal with....in fact, I've heard Mark Levin talk about the harrowing atmosphere of animal shelters and the courage one needs to work there. So of course Jackson is going to try and talk any owner out of euthanasia, whenever possible.

Bottom line, however, a person can't be badgered into anything unless he allows it. I believe the owner of that particular cat was an architect who might well have been able to afford the treatment. Either way, ultimately the choice was up to him.

You’re right. It’s not a good idea to put out your hand and try to pet a strange cat. The cat may very well see it as a threat. Let them come to you.

I like to get down on the floor with animals I don’t know-—sort of get on their level. I did that with the German Shepherd my sister-in-law used to have, and he got SO excited....he tried to sit his big butt in my lap, LOL.

Oh, my goodness....there was one segment involving a gray cat, a female with a male name. That black light found urine on the kitchen counter behind the microwave! (ugh)

Turned out the cat was having hormonal fits. I don't pee on the counter, but I could relate.
