What is the starting pay for his department?
When I see police departments that post starting salaries
of $30K and under I cringe. You are dumpster diving for the very lowest quality candidates at that point. Which is just asking for stuff like this to happen.
Don't kid yourself. There are plenty of "income opportunities" to kick this way up.
Based on an hourly rate, annual starting salary for a Tucson Police Officer is $45,965 and begins when a recruit is appointed to the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center.
Are you suggesting people in government are underpaid or under compensated?
Just print more money.
That $30,000 is likely $10,000 more annually than the store clerk ;and the clerk is statiscally several times more likely to be shot and killed on the job, almost certainly has insurance and retirement that pale in comparison to the police IF the clerk has either.
The clerk is also prohibited by his employer from having a weapon or defending himself in 99% of stores .
Your sympathy is misplaced.
The way it used to work for a couple thousand tears is you start at low pay ,gain experience and prove yourself, and are rewarded with promotions and higher pay.
I get so tired of whiny cops wanting 6-figure salaries plus bennies because “I put my life on the line for you ...”
In most cases that is pure BS.
The trouble is too many become cops for the power trip and too few to “protect and serve”.That seems to especially apply to those in liberal enclaves.
