VANCOUVER, British Columbia Glee actor Cory Monteith, who had struggled for years with substance abuse and once said he was lucky to be alive, died of an overdose of heroin and alcohol, the British Columbia coroners office said Tuesday.
There is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteiths death was anything other than a most tragic accident, the office said in a statement.
The 31-year-old was found dead in his Vancouver, British Columbia, hotel room on Saturday after he didnt check out on time. He was believed to be alone when he died. Hotel video and electronic records indicate he returned to his room by himself early Saturday.
At a briefing Tuesday afternoon, police said they believe Monteith had been dead for several hours before he was found. They said the coroners report didnt indicate the levels of heroin or alcohol in his system. They ruled out foul play.
Our belief is that when he took the heroin he was alone, said Vancouver Police Department spokesman Brian Montague. He added: There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose. Were not providing exactly what we found at the scene.
Police said it was too early for the coroners office to conclude whether Monteith was the victim of a bad batch of heroin, which turns up from time to time in Vancouver.
Monteiths death recalled the lives of Heath Ledger, Corey Haim and River Phoenix actors who battled substance abuse and died in their 20s and 30s.
Monteith had talked bluntly about struggling with addiction since he was a teenager, calling it a serious problem and telling Parade magazine in 2011 he was lucky to be alive.

And these are the people our teens and young adults want to emulate. RIP.
these are the willing tools of the leftwing propaganda outlets
May God have mercy upon his soul. From what I’ve heard about that program(which, happily, I have never watched), I’m surprised this hasn’t happened to more of its actors.
I am shocked and surprised. NOT.
So, if you slash your wrists in the bathtub, swallow a bottle full of pills, or eat a bullet, is that also considered “a most tragic accident”?
Maybe he didn’t intend it to be a fatal dose, but when you inject yourself with unknown chemicals, isn’t it at best a game of Russian Roulette?
Heroin, alcohol, and “Glee”.
None of which are good lifestyle choices.
Why are these things always “tragic”? You mix heroin and alcohol, death is an eventuality.
There were somne drunken kids many years ago who went speeding down a 25 mph road on which I lived. They ran a stop sign and struck a tree eight feet off the ground. How fast must one go to launch a car eight feet into the air with enough speed to kill all occupants? Again, it was called a “tragedy.” Again, I say, drive at some crazy rate of speed, death is an inevitability, not a tragedy. Running over a kid on a big wheel on the way to your self induced death - thatis a tragedy.
31 years old and he plays a high school student on TV?
Good Riddance!
There is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteiths death was anything other than a most tragic accident, the office said in a statement.
Not an accident. It was his choice to screw himself up like that.
A 31-year-old who has been through rehab who dies of a heroin/alcohol overdose is not “tragic”. Sad. But not tragic. He brought it on himself. Let’s save “tragedy” for things that actually fit the description.
From what I've heard about herion overdosing it ain't pretty. You need an iron stomach to view the body.
Why do we as parents allow our kids to watch this junk on tv and absorb this crap that is published. We supply the money and devices to allow our kids to see it...We have our Grandkids visiting and we just took away their online mobile devices..and are now control their access..that and to the tv. We were shocked by what we found on their facebook...we are instructing their parents in dealing with the problem..if they value their inheritence. Enough is enough..
bump
Guess Glee lost it’s glow.
Tried to fill the God sized hole with drugs. Sad.
There are 99% of us out here who have little or no talent by comparison who manage to thrive with out drugs. I am sad for his family but all above considered, not so much for him. He blew it.
