Two years ago there was a grassroots initiative to have Detroit mayor Dave Bing fund a bronze statue of the pop culture icon, but the city wouldnt fund it. However, through a Kickstarter campaign (I feel like this thing is growing in popularity by the week) the funding for the $60,000 statue came through and now the project has come to fruition. Two years of planning, constructing, scanning, and fabrication has finally led to the nearly finished project that will sit in the city of Detroit.

Hey, Philly had their ‘Rocky’ bronze statue so why shouldn’t Detroit have their own good guy?

We have the OCP headquarters here in Dallas:
That's better than some old bronze statue!

Perfect!
After all, metaphorically, Robocop is Detroit’s only hope.

Maybe they could have a bronzed Han Solo to go with it.

The overpass @75 & Davison in Highland Park would be a good fit. Good as any place for a cleanup.

Originally, until the violence was cut.

A lot of it was shot in closed steel mills here in Pittsburgh. Is that why Detroit is placing the statue?

For what it's worth there's a nice statue of Superman in Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Kal-El was born in the imaginations of a couple nice Jewish boys in Cleveland in 1933.

fitting. detroit is proud of a fictitious character in a movie that portrayed their city as a lawless, bankrupt, dangerous dystopia.
30 years later, they don’t have a real robocop, but they sure turned their city into a dangerous, broke hellhole.
