In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
accrete \uh-KREET\ , verb
1. to grow together; adhere (usually followed by to).
2. to add, as by growth.
adjective
1. Botany. grown together.
Example sentences:
Most things accrete that don't gradually crumble, rust or evaporate.
-- Iain M. Banks, The Hydrogen Sonata, 2012
...a long history, in the course of which it seems to grow, to accrete difficulties, and to merge and overlap with other problems, so that an attempt to solve the single problem appears hopeless without an assault
-- Renata Adler, Pitch Dark, 1983
Etymology:
Entering English in the late 1700s, accrete is a backformation of the noun accretion from the Latin word accrēscere meaning "to grow."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Race relations will roil in defeat
After Zimmerman’s trialed

And take the fake fight to the street

A hostile exchange took place in the courtroom today where George Zimmerman is on trial for second degree murder as Judge Debra Nelson questioned the defendant about his plans to testify.
Nelson reminded Zimmerman that he has the absolute right to remain silent if he so desires and proceeded to ask him whether he was prepared to testify. Defense attorney Don West twice objected to the question, but was overruled by Nelson, who explained, The court is entitled to inquire if Mr. Zimmermans determination [sic] as to whether or not he wants to testify.
The judge then began asking Zimmerman how much time he requires to determine whether or not he would like to testify. West again objected to the question and asked for more time to speak with his client, prompting Judge Nelson to raise her voice and exclaim, Your objection is overruled!
The tension escalated as another of Zimmermans defense attorneys, Mark OMara, was overheard asking under his breath, What is going on?
Kathi Belich, a journalist following the trial for a local news channel, tweeted her surprise at the line of questioning, writing I have never seen that in more than 30 years of court reporting. Should this woman be on the Bench?
they ran Sheriff Lee out of his job for handling the case properly. I smell a lawsuit there.

Its funny, because all along, Ive been trying to decide, if shes an idiot, or surreptitiously trying to do that very thing.
Several times along the way, shes done things that reek of...for lack of a better word, malpractice.

Accrete
I called the wastewater treatment plant and someone (the chef?) in their cafeteria gave me this:
It appears to mean something from the floating Island of Crete. You got your basic accrete where Cretes get together, then there’s crooked Cretes called con cretes which are some hard characters, there’s dis cretes who know how to keep their big mouths shut and not dis anyone, sailors there are se cretes which looks a lot like se crets so maybe they’s dis cretes too or

I saw a bunch of clams accreting together yesterday on our boat tour of Assateague. Saw some herds of the wild ponies. Then in town got to feed and pet a few of them.
Went over and back on the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel bridge tunnel bridge. A pretty amazing bit of engineering.
