I don't believe judges can be disbarred. Technically, they don't even have to be lawyers.
Most states require judges to have experience as attorneys. Ironically, there is no requirement to be a lawyer to become a federal judge. Specifically, there are no requirements regarding qualifications to be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
When C.J. Rhenquist was interviewed about a book he had written, he was asked about the legal experience and education needed to be qualified for the Supreme Court. His response was that none was required. In fact the only constitutional requirement for any law position covered in the constitution was for the Soliciter General, and that was “ to be learned in the law, whatever that means.”
