Etymology: c.1400, from L. Myrmidones (pl.), from Gk. Myrmidones, Thessalian tribe led by Achilles to the Trojan War, fabled to have been ants changed into men, from Gk. myrmex "ant." Transferred sense of "faithful follower" is from 1610.

A myrmidon is like a male myrmimaid, which is one of those fishy women that sailors got so fired up about. Makes me wonder why they didn’t want women on ships.

The military of all nations requires their soldiers behave like myrmidons, and follow the orders without hesitation to the cost of their own lives. However, in Western nations we also require that the orders can be evaluated by the soldiers to ensure it is lawful as well. This is what Obama fears.
