Do you think people are getting sicker and weirder? I wonder about it. Maybe a small percentage of the population has always been that way, and we just hear about them more often. But, I wouldn’t rule out the prevalence of hard-core internet porn as an influence. We joke because it creeps us out, but I’ll bet that mother didn’t feel like it was so funny.
Anyway, how would someone do something like that? He’d have to be a human pretzel like a creature on the X-files!

1 in 10M means in 1950 there were maybe 15 of these guys, and no Internet; and the locals just pounded the crap out of them, and kept it somewhat quiet.
Now, there'd be 30-35 of them, with cable news, iPhones, Twitter, Internet, etc.; and the fire dept washes the crap off of them, and the cops make it a public record.
Twice as many, and much better instant communications, and very public police/fire involvement.
