NO one has a right to publically embarass another .. no matter the day nor reason.
Au contraire! If someone publicly embarrasses you, you have the duty to then reprimand that person, else discourteous behavior should win the day.
There is the tacit understanding that one should not fall asleep while being spoken to. In this case, the sleeper violated that tacit understanding.

Hell, our politicians, and courts, and members of the executive have done things that should embarrass them, that should cause them to be publicly smacked-down
