Name the Best, Worst Rush Limbaugh Guest Hosts
Self | July 6, 2013 | PJ-Comix

Name the BEST and the WORST (in your opinion) of the Rush Limbaugh guest hosts when he is absent from the EIB airwaves. Here is my humble opinion:

The BEST guest host is Mark Steyn who substituted for El Rushbo yesterday. Usually I miss listening to Rush but Steyn is so good that he actually makes for an enjoyable break. His wit and polished accent makes for good listening.

The WORST guest host had to be Bill Cunningham. Thankfully, I think I only heard him once and that was one time too many. Cunningham's delivery throughout the show was like one long LOUD screech. Painful on the ears and it actually started to give me a headache.

I also remember another guest host whose name is thankfully forgotten who spent a big chunk of the show ignoring current events in favor of playing silly number (or word) games on the air but Cunningham stands out in memory as truly annoying.

Bob Dornan was the all time best.

Almost sure that back in the bronze age Bill Cunningham on 700WLW was doing Rush before there even was a Rush.

Agreed Mark is very entertaining with his ironic wit,I guess in times like these it’s better we laugh.

Mark Steyn - Best by a mile
Mark Davis - Worse

As a Texan than pains me to see that an “undocumented host” is better than a fellow Texan.

When, WHEN was Chris Matthews ever a sub? How did I miss that? Hoax?

Not a hoax. I heard the show. It was right after Columbine.

Cunningham is the only one that I would rate as poor.

Chris Matthews substituted for Rush once that I can recall. It would have been around 1998 or so. I don’t recall him being so hard-core left in those days. Left, yes, but not as hard core as now.

Was it Mark Levin? I'm not sure.

You might be thinking of Rodger Hedgecock, he was an excellent fill in.

I’ve been listening for 2 decades +. When, WHEN was Chris Matthews ever a sub? How did I miss that? Hoax?

I can't find the exact date.

The Wikipedia article on the Rush Limbaugh Show lists Matthews as having been a guest host, but doesn't give the exact date. It only says it was "during the late 1990s."

I heard it though. Or at least part of it.

Matthews talked very fast during most of the show. He seemed to want to get it behind him as fast as he could.

I think I turned it off during or after the first hour. Matthews wasn't a particularly good host, but the curiosity factor was strong.

Yes, that may be it. Thanks.

Karl Rove was the worst.

I would rather Chris Mathews than Karl Rove, to be perfectly honest.

Jason Lewis was great. Too bad he’s not on anymore. Wonder why?

The Chris Matthews of today would hate the 90’s Chris Matthews.

I like Steyn but lately I don’t enjoy his yuk-yuk humor as the country goes down in flames. It just isn’t funny. He is sharp, has a good take on things but I just can’t find anything to laugh about as the constitution burns..

Tokyo Rove was guest host just once ... and he didn't let me down ... I expected nothing of him and he didn't let me down

He was awful

Within the week he had taken up some issue altogether inapposite any conservative philosophy and Rush came down on him like a brick wall

he was never invited to guest host again ... thank you

I must say I do like Mark Steyn ... and several of the other Marks as well

There must be a connective reason it's called Mt. Rushmore ... he really should be up there ... greatest communicator since Ronaldus Maxus

.

The first guest host I heard was B-1 Bob Dornan who got pretty rowdy and I don't think he was invited back.
Chris Matthews led off emotionally, nearly crying on the air. His stint was incredibly pathetic.
Others: Bob Grant, Jason Lewis, Roger Hedgecock, Mark Levin, Paul W. Smith, Mark Davis, Mark Belling, Mary Matalin, Doug Urbanski, Mark Steyn, Walter Williams, Tom Sullivan ...
