Didn’t the Aztec do this when playing ball. I remember as a child being at Mexico and we went to the pyramids. I recall a longated arena with hoops on the wall. I believe the loser winds up as...still loser because I think they lose their Heads or Heart.
Oddly, a former pro soccer team in Los Angeles during the 1970s, was named the Aztecs.
