The Barbie doll is 11 1/2” tall (and is standing on tiptoe); this works out to 5’ 9” in high heeled shoes, not at all unreasonable for a young woman of the baby-boomer generation.
Ken and the first GI Joes were also 11 1/2” tall, or scale 5’ 9”, about average for young men in the 1950’s and early 60’s. Current GI Joe’s are 12” tall, or 6’ at 1/6 scale. More realistically proportioned 1/6th scaled figures, both male and female, are currently available.
