Pursuit of Happiness was a truncated term Jefferson coined in order to describe the "pursuit of virtue which leads to happiness with God."
It was understood by all the Founders that a virtuous life leads to a life worthy of being with God for eternity. That is our Founders meaning of "happiness."
They all would be appalled to think that their "pursuit of happiness" has been relegated to mean a licentious effort just to make ourselves "feel good."
Thank you very much for your comment.
In that case, my understanding of the pursuit of happiness agrees with our founders.
The reason that I posted this thread today is because, although we are justifiably concerned about current affairs, if we step back every once in a while and focus on the good which we have and the gifts we’ve been given interiorly by God, we will be strengthened for whatever lies ahead - and, so, we will be happier!
Best wishes to you and I hope you’ll remember to let me know when your book is published.
I’ll add another thing for which I’m thankful: your input!
Have a Blessed and Happy 4th!
