Sorry, I don’t believe the leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church are a bunch of Communist thugs at heart. Does not compute. The Church has perserved through a myriad of Communist leaders in Russia, and how this guy or any guy can know the hearts of all the Church leaders is beyond me.

Applying the Roman Catholic "gates of hell" argument here, when did God promise to preserve the breakaway Orthodox churches?

Fact of the matter is, the Russian Orthodox Church (as was the Catholic Church), was completely penetrated by the KGB (and the likes of Putin) during the Cold War. That’s not to say that there were not honorable dissidents in both Churches.
