It all stands in stark contrast to my years of experience throughout Africa, where family and education are highly valued; where students may walk for miles to attend a school, are respectful of their teachers, and eager to learn of the world outside their home districts. They are able speak French and English while still in grade school. No cellphones. No laptops. No iPods. No T.V. No electricity. No water. Half their siblings die in infancy. Kids in the U.S. have no idea how well off they are, and how it's killing them.
