I think the whole concept of a .22LR being potentially lethal is missing a point somewhere. Yeah, someone shot with one may die eventually. The question is will it stop them from attacking me right now?
I prefer something that let’s more light in.
But I can’t always carry a 1911.
Would you keep attacking someone if they had a six or ten shot .22 caliber handgun?
Probably not. So consider this. You are an elderly person without much physical strength and perhaps with a slight case of arthritis in your hands. A .22 semi-auto, 10 round handgun is very likely your best choice of defensive weapon.
Why?
You can hold it with both hands and the recoil is negligible. It will make enough noise to alert everyone in the immediate vicinity that you aren’t fooling around. So anyone intending to do you harm will immediately decide the old lady is crazy and I had better get out of here before she wings me in her wild eyed rampage.
