Less than a month after Will Smiths After Earth crashed at the box office, Sony finds itself in another predicament with Roland Emmerichs White House Down.
The $150 million action thriller, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, is the studios most expensive film of the summer but may debut as poorly as fourth place this weekend with a projected $27 million.
Not only are the early estimates soft for a project Sony bought in a record spec deal for $3 million in 2012, its actually worse than this years other White House thriller, Olympus Has Fallen, which opened to $30.8 million for FilmDistrict on a much smaller budget ($70 million).

By now you must know that Naps just doesn’t get it.
BwwwaaahHaaaHaaa Haaaa Haaaaa!!!! I guess the whole Jamie Foxx thing is because there's so few white actors in Hollywood?
Gee, you mean people don’t like poorly done polemics?
2nd black president...Hilliary Clinton?
Good call. I was quite pleased with the movie when viewed via VOD. But the smart money is with the extended edition.
Stock up on popcorn. You'll love the flick!
My worst movie mistake was listening to Siskel and Ebert reviews on Dinner with Andre. They gave that snorer 4 thumbs up. Eighty percent of the theater was snoring half way through. I am not exaggerating. Unfreaking believably boring. Never ever listened to Siskel and Ebert after that.
Yeah. Problem was, I didn’t pay attention to that kind of thing. I was extremely political, but I tried to insulate my entertainment from my politics.
I wish I could still do it that way, but I can’t. Political considerations insinuate themselves into a lot of my decision-making nowadays. I get the impression that it bothers my wife, but God bless her, she understands me pretty well, and she knows what makes me tick. I think she understands that stuff is as much a part of me as my femur.
Sorry dude ! Not going to spend my money so Hollywood can pay that America hating Jamie Fox a nickel.
I want to see this-—not in a theater-—but liked “Olympus Has Fallen”
That was a strange post that made zero cents. Oh well. I am sure you do better in other threads.
Well, last week we got a step closer to making “Patriot’s History” into a limited theatrical release.
Sorry to hear that. I did get a chuckle when you mentioned 1/2 the theater was sleeping. I have been to a few like that for sure. “The Decendents” for sure....don’t know why people thought that was so great and “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” was another really BORING and awful movie to me.
Always go see a movie reviewers don’t like.
people are sick of politics - especially anything concerning The White House.
Well, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that we have had, what? 43 "white" American presidents in real life, and probably over 50 American Africans in the Hollywood version of the universe?
Who's Jamie Foxx?
Maybe he can thrill to killing a few more White people....regardless of his politics.
Me, I’ll have the $$ and pass.
Why go to the movies to see what you can watch on the evening news?....
‘No....I wish.’
Based on the box office, you do not want to be an investor. Better to have gotten a small piece of The Passion. That would have pad off handsomely. $30 million budget, $500,000,000 Domestic Box Office, over $1 Billion World Wide and at least half again in Video rental and sales.
Now That was a return on investment. It was also a very well made film though difficult to watch.
As the long term rumor going around puts it, "there's no accounting for taste."
