Anecdotal story, but true:

My neighbor’s apartment and mine share a staircase.

She had to call the police about a child that had come to her door saying she was “lost”.

I didn’t know this, and was taking MY dog out for a walk on a leash.

I saw the LEO coming up the stairs (in full battle regalia) and my FIRST instinct was to put myself between the cop and my dog. I did it without even thinking. Then I “Good Morning, can I help you?” And he said “Other Apartment”

OK. So I went on my way. Shielding the Dog the whole time.

Just from reading stories here on FR I have figured out that if the Cops ever come to my place, or if I’m ever out with my dog and a cop comes up to me that is what I’d have to do!
