What is double clutch?
You need to double clutch with unsynchronized manual transmissions. You clutch, shift into neutral and clutch again to shift into gear. A synchronized manual transmission is just the single clutch from gear through neutral into gear.
One of my summer college jobs was with a pool company. They had this utility van with a column shifter on an unsynchronized transmission. We always had to return during rush hour traffic, under load in the hills of Pennsylvania. I hated it, but will remember it forever.
It was a classic case of screwing up in reverse. I normally drove a manual transmission, so they would choose me to drive the van. Didn't get any extra pay for it either.

At one time I owned ,and drove depending on the need, a 3 on the tree Dodge pickup,a Fiat 128,and an Opel GT 5 ;all sticks with different patterns-and then there were the two farm tractors with yet more variations.
Heck,we even had a manual TV channel knob!!!
