The children of Gen Y are going to scorn their parents’ total apathy toward personal privacy. In 20 years the tyranny resulting from the abuse of personal data will produce a generation of privacy advocates. Think of how the depression era folks were about the stock market and banks. That’s how the next generation will be about personal data.

I foresee a bill of rights after some sort of reboot starting with the words:

We hold these truths to be self evident. Human privacy being an integral part to the public welfare, No citizen or its artificial equivalent may hold information about another citizen or artificial equivalent for any reason except they both agree. Moreover, the people and their artificial equivalents shall be safe from divulging information unless compelled to do so by a court of law AND a jury of their peers.

Or some such equivalent.
