A dog was shot and severely injured by a Leander police officer Monday night after the officer attempted to serve a warrant at the wrong address, according to the dogs owners and a statement from the Leander Police Department.
The dog, a German shepherd named Vinny that works as a therapy dog, was shot in the neck and is recovering at the home of his owners in Liberty Hill.
Renata and James Simmons, the dogs owners, are baffled and distraught by the actions of the officer. According to the statement from LPD, Warrant Officer Woodson Blase arrived at the Simmons home on FM 3405 to serve a warrant, knocked on the door and was walking around the back of the house when two German shepherds ran toward him.
The officer feared for his safety and fired three shots, the statement said.
James Simmons said he didnt know the officer was there until he heard the gunshots. When he approached the officer in the front yard, Simmons said, the officer told him he was there to serve a warrant. Simmons had never heard of the person named in the warrant and has lived at that home for nine years. When he asked the officer what address he was looking for, Blase did not answer, Simmons said.
Vinny was hit once in the neck and was rushed to an emergency veterinarian. The dog is expected to live, but may not walk normally again, James Simmons said.
The incident is under administrative review, according to the statement from LPD.
In a perfect world, which we don’t have. Again, I don’t justify the shooting without all the facts, just saying you serve the paper then make the call.
Hey look. Its one of our resident jackbootlickers here to tell us everything is grand up to and including the train station transfer!
More by how it treats its unborn children, I would think.
Give me a copy of the warrant and I will. I want the same info available to me as had the officer.
I am not blind supporter as I was one before and know first hand there are goobers in the job. My point is everyone here condemning knows shiite from shinola what happened out there until after the facts come out. Zip, nada, but they are quick to pony up and spout bravado they would kill anyone who shoots there dog yada yada.
Besides I don’t under your train euphemism.
I just re read the story to see if I missed something and still did not see anything in it about a missing address numbers on the house. I still feel the officer was negligent from the start, no other houses had numbers on them that he determine the correct residence? Never heard of Google maps? Sloppy, lazy, shoddy work that resulted in an animal maimed. And worse it could have another home owner shot or killed.
whenever an occasion for me to drive on to one’s property, whether I know them or not, either city or rural, I blow the car horn or make a very loud noise.
I do not exit vehicle unless someone invites me to step down. If no one shows I leave.
At the age of 77+ i have never had any proplems using that “RULE”.
Yes that is a good rule that I follow a lot.
There's a situation where there innocent lives at stake, that has nothing to do with it being a perfect world or not. The question is simple: do you act differently when approaching potentially innocent people and dogs or exactly the same?
Here's another situation: you are called to a bank robbery and when you arrive there is a man running from the bank. Do you draw, aim and tell him to halt? Suppose you arrive and there are 3 women and 2 men running from the bank (you have no info about the robbery). Do you do aim at the five of them?
If it is the same response no matter what the context, is that because training is only for threats, with no deviations based on observed facts and inferences?
“I am not blind supporter as I was one”
I suspected as much.
“Besides I dont under your train euphemism.”
Not surprising in the least.
Here is the incident I was referring to on the other thread.
” My point is everyone
here condemning knows shiite from
shinola what happened out there until
after the facts come out.”
With cops, facts don’t come out. Just excuses. Cops keep making the same mistakes and don’t pay for them. So nothing changes. WE are tired of the negligence and bad attitudes.
I see. Go be one and make it a better place.
Update:
According to the officer, two German Shepherds starting running toward him, so he fired three shots and one of them struck Vinny in the back of the neck.
The Simmons say not only was it a close call for their dog, Vinny, but it was also a close call for their 6-year old terminally ill grandchild playing just around the corner.
I was in my house, my grandchild was at the back picnic table, my husband was in the kitchen getting a snack and my dogs do what they do; run in and out.

*****
So, a “charging” dog is hit in the back of the neck and a six year old child is playing close by.
It’s a blessing the child wasn’t injured.
The facts are that:
1) A charging dog was shot in the back of the neck.
2) A six year old child was playing nearby.
3) The person on the warrant *lived in an entirely different town*
4) The whole affair was in response to an “expired vehicle registration”.

How about this. Idiot cops who arent smart enough to find an address start paying the price for this with their miserable, worthless lives.
I like that option better. Once a few of the exceptionally bad ones get smoked their marginally smarter brethren may, and I do emphasis may, catch on.
Loser.
I’m not the one who showed up at the wrong house and shot someones family pet.
