Golden Retriever. Get a reputable breeder and pick your pup. I get females because they seem to be extremely pack oriented and don’t want to roam. Of course, never say never. Be sure to put in tons of time - daily. Thirty minutes to an hour of focussed time, especially when they are pups learning the ropes and bonding. Go to puppy school or the like to learn how to be the master; don’t do this and the dog will control you. When mature, they still need to walk daily (or exercise close to it) and at least 10-15 minutes of face time.

Do these simple things and your animal will astound you. Retrievers are some of the smartest dogs and clearly smarter than many people. Truly, man’s best friend.

Don’t take the time to do the things the animal needs and you’ll have a mess on your hands. Goes for human kids, too.

I was going to do a Shelter Animal ... I think I can fix them, we may not be perfectly matched at first but we can be in the end...

You forgot to add prepare to have your heart broken when your Golden dies at 12, 13, 14, or 15. I lost mine this February, and I’m still looking around the house for him.

And you CAN get a great Golden through a Golden Rescue Group. You still have to go to doggie school and put in the rest of the time, but most of them just want to please you.
