The remake was OK, but I still thought the original with John Wayne and Glen Campbell was far better.

Main reasons:

• They skipped the Hymn singing during the gallows scene in the remake.
  
• They spring the trap door on the Native American convict before he even finishes the first line of his gallows statement in the remake.
  
• The obsession with dark photography in the remake.

  Items #1 and #2 bother me the most. Judge Parker ran a strict but fair hanging enterprise, as did the judge before him. It is what turned Ft. Smith from being an frontier town haven for outlaws into a pleasant little town of church goers in a mere 15 years or so.
