A few years ago, a Jamaican and I were swinging pickaxes in a confined space under a house for a few days. The owner of the house decided that he wanted a basement as an afterthought. The Jamaican gentleman, being even older than me, said, "This is slavery, mon. Slavery!" I nodded agreement, of course (low pay, no benefits, sometimes waiting for hours without pay in the so-called employer's office for jobs, etc.).

Many of us--black and white--are slaves. And with so many regulations against production for the sake of "property values" in the middle of nowhere and having no government connections to be allowed to compete, we're a large part of the real private sector.
