You realize that optical drives are slowly becoming outdated by thumb drives?
An external drive is fine, if it allows a person to DUMP Windows and viruses.

Just talking tech here. My Dad has a new iMac that he loves. I haven't had a virus on my widows or linux machines in years. I like windows 8.

But if you have the money, and you want one. go for a mac. But a macbook air is a lightweight (literally and operationally) machine. If all you need to do are lightweight tasks, you can get a google chromebook for $299. And it has usb ports.

On the other hand, an optical drive allows you to save 4.7gb on a 25¢ piece of plastic.
