SAEGERTOWN, Pa., - A Pennsylvania woman said she discovered a two-headed piglet preserved in a glass jar buried in her mother's back yard.
Sharon Reagle said she was planting hostas at the Saegertown home of her mother, Betty Wood, Sunday when she came across a jar containing preserving fluid and a tied-closed bag, the Meadville (Pa.) Tribune reported Tuesday.
Reagle said she took the object inside and opened the bag, revealing the two-headed piglet inside.
"It was unique; pretty neat really," Reagle said. "It didn't bother me at all."
"My parents lived there for 56 years and never raised pigs," Reagle said of the jar's unknown origins.
Reagle donated the strange specimen to Allegheny College.
"This is like Christmas for a biologist. The students will love it," said Lisa Whitenack, assistant professor of biology at the school.
When I was a little kid I went to the Piggly Wiggly with my mom. I stayed in the hot car, which was the custom of the time. I had standing orders not to leave the car, but across the street in front of the feed store was a group of men looking in a pickup. Four year old me couldn’t resist after a while I went over. Some guy lifted me up onto the tailgate and I saw a dead two headed Hereford calf. And then the owner spoke, with a vibrator thingy pressed beside the hole in his throat from having his larynx removed. Well, that was too many for me and I ran back to the car, never to speak of what I saw for many years.
There was a reason your mom didn’t want you out of the car!
Good find!
Bkmkd!
