The reason that JWs and Mormons put Christians to shame is that theyre on the ground and encountering people with their faith (even if its grossly in error). Amen!
But that's what ya get with a WORKS oriented religion: a LOT of WORKING!!!

Interesting stuff.
But you’ll find it a pretty hard row to hoe claiming that abolitionists were political conservatives, no matter what denomination they to.
Now I agree that under today’s standards of conservatism abolitionism would be required. Proper understanding of the Founding requires it, IMO.
But it is just a fact that abolitionism from 1830 to 1860 was not a conservative position. In fact, since it by definition entailed enormous change and disruption of society (not to mention destruction of “property rights” and expansion of government power) it was by definition a non-conservative position.

Brigham Young said...HE sure said a LOT of stuff!
If I were an SLC Mormon; I'd think long and hard about THIS quote from their #2 Living Prophet:
"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.
Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)

Certainly MANY Protestants would say the same thing about other Protestant denominations. Heck!
I'd say it about CATHOLICS, too!

Protestant groups taught innate black inferiority at least up into the 60s, often basing this on ludicrous misinterpretations of Scripture involving the Curse of Cain or the curse of Canaan, etc.Sorry, but at LEAST scripture was MISinterpreted; not DISTINCTLY written into it!
2 Nephi 5: 21
'And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.'
Alma 3: 6
'And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.'

Seem in general to be good advice for those in such a position.
I would suspect a lot of these rules were put in because of a missionary who got into trouble.

FWIW, Sikhs are required to wear “magic underwear,” and for much the same reason. The idea being that by the time you get down to removing them, it might just remind you that you’re getting ready to commit a sin.
Of course, nobody ever makes fun of the Sikh magic underwear, possibly because Sikhs are also required to carry a sword.

Okay. Just to round it out.

Okay, if this email is from 2011, my impression that I see a lot of these types of threads emanating from one person isn’t incorrect (as you imply that I have or haven’t researched it)
I am sure colofornian has started threads or posted on other subjects, but the predominance of these anti-Mormon threads seems to be evident to more than just this Freeper.

Given a choice between living in a Mormon neighborhood or a black neighborhood, which would most FReepers prefer?
