In my part of the country (western Wisconsin), we too have been inundated with pleas by people to feed ostensibly starving children during the summer. "Who is going to feed these poor kids now that summer is out?" we hear them whine on tv and in the local paper. Not once does the interviewer bother to ask these people why the kid's parents can't feed them. I'm sick to death of all the "feed the hungry" programs that have mushroomed in the last 10-20 years...especially when Americans have been getting noticeably fatter in that time period...particularly children!
Especially since the family gets $30k + when all the benes are added up. IIRC the figure for a family of 4 is around $37-39k. More than the nat'l average wage of $36k.
