There is an entity here called the Southern Nevada Flood Control District, and it is responsible for the entire system of drainage conduits, canals and flood basins to help the water from the flash floods find its way to Lake Mead with a minimum of damage.
The biggest problem, of course, is the fact that not only is the desert baked hard as a rock after millennia of sun, but that paving and structures are in the ways of the natural water courses.
Hence, the Flood Control system. These storms are not like the rains in the Midwest, Pacific Northwest and the South. There, it may drizzle for days and the water has a chance to sink in and run off into the aquifers and rivers.
Here, the storms dump so much water so suddenly in such small areas that if one isn’t careful and aware, one can be swept away by the torrents. When the rain hits the hard-packed sand and/or pavement so suddenly, it has no where to go but downhill.

Shinedown is Elen’s favorite band at the moment. They have several good songs, although not such nice haircuts as “Young Guns.”
Everyone (except Bill and Anoreth) will be home on Monday. I’m making Cuban pork roast and beans with ersatz chiles rellenos because there were no poblano peppers.

More rain is forecast for the next few days. Ungh.
Last night’s storm gave us (in Hooterville Junction) a good light show, but the action was all in the valley, and mostly around the downtown area. The storm took even the weather prognosticators by surprise.
Times like these, I’m glad I’m in the higher part of Clark County!

It has rained torrentially twice here today, for about 15 minutes each time. So, not much total rainfall.
On the way to work, Bryan saw a lightning strike that pulsated for 3-4 seconds rather than quickly disappearing.
Weirdest thing he ever saw, and he was wondering what made the thing pulsate rather than just breaking off after the electric discharge.

We packed up James as if the second Flood were coming, but it’s been dry since he got to camp. Threatening this afternoon, but nothing’s happened yet.
Two of the ladies who were at Boy Scout camp the last couple of days said Pat told them we never wash our clothes.

It rained here last night, but I was in bed, reading, and all I could do was smell it. The lightning was enough to keep me indoors. :o|
I saw lightning that pulsated once...there is a story behind it, but it’s not a really short one; I will tell it if you’re interested.
(Nasty migraine coming back. The vision is getting ugly.)

Ohwow. Pat saying that reminds me of when Lablady was about nine. She told the neighbors that I only fed her once a day, and within a week, I had CPS knocking at my door.
She was a trial, that one.

I am relieved to know THAT! Although we had been in the complex for nearly a year, we didn’t socialize much. I just didn’t have much in common with most of the neighbors.
Anyway, it’s all water under the bridge. She has grown up and is responsible for her own actions; I just remember her childhood, as I do Hockeybughow’s. They were kids.

It seems like nobody studies logic these days. Little point.
Knowing logic won't help you understand much of anything the government imposes on you or does.
